Description

Hammond Lumber Company, voted 2025's Best Places to Work in Maine, is seeking a Full-Time Staff Accountant Level I for our Belgrade, Maine location. 


The Staff Accountant Level I is responsible for maintaining financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring accuracy in daily accounting transactions. This role provides an excellent entry point for those looking to apply accounting principles within the lumber and building materials (LBM) industry.


Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information.
  • Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports.
  • Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files as well as reconciling accounts.
  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
  • Protects the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  • Accomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Experience: 2–3 years of accounting experience (internships count)
  • Knowledge: Advanced Proficiency in MS Excel. Knowledge of lumber inventory valuation or LBM-specific software is highly desirable
