About this role

Applied Research Associates (ARA) is looking for an individual to support both shop fabrication and infield activities at ARA’s China Lake location, located in Ridgecrest, CA. The candidate will support fabrication of electronics equipment, assembly of mechanical structures, field install of mechanical and electrical equipment, and post-install support. Required skills include ability to understand both mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, understanding of low voltage wiring systems, ability to read and redline design drawings, and the ability to translate these skills into both shop and field install activities. Must work well in a team environment and provide innovative feedback and problem solving to teams of engineers and technicians.

The successful candidate should have a background in the above-mentioned skillsets and the ability to work in a flexible, high paced environment to meet customer needs

Position Summary:

Installs, maintains and repairs products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at the client and/or field locations. Instructs customers in equipment operation, provides technical assistance, performs preventative maintenance, troubleshoots equipment for malfunctions to eliminate problem in minimum time. Performs one or many of a wide range of installation tasks such as running conduit and cable, installing and connecting trays, racks and electronic hardware systems, connecting and testing both new and retrofit construction of audio/visual, computer server, network and telecommunications equipment. Installs, upgrade Levels and removes products ensuring coordinative engineering field change. Assembles, installs and configures systems and equipment in accordance with site assessments and schematics. Completes system programming and optimization as part of the installation process. Completes final commissioning and integrated acceptance testing of electrical systems and associated equipment. Ensures the commissioning and final acceptance of critical path equipment is conducted to clients requirements and in accordance with applicable industry standards (API, ABS, DNV, etc.). Performs routine system maintenance and analysis functions, including hardware configurations and adding, removing and replacing equipment components. Provides on-site end-user training on system operation, maintenance and limited troubleshooting. Travels frequently to customer sites in performance of duties. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

Essential Functions

  • Read and Red Line Electrical Schematics
  • Read and Red line Mechanical Assembly / Sub-Assemblie drawings
  • Assemble and wire custom equipment
  • Test and verify equipment
  • Run conduit and pull wire
  • Terminate wire in the field
  • Work closely in a team setting with other technicians and engineers
  • Must have the ability to gain and maintain a security clearance

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Experience and Skills

  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience in work that directly relates to the above position description

Preferred

  •  Experience working under OSHA guidelines
  • Work at or in direct support of a government installation
  • Active security clearance
