About this role

Job Description:

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hello, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship office is in Sydney, Australia, but we've made our way from down under, to a hub in San Francisco, which is now home to our US operations. We offer flexibility in how and where you work. We trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

Revenue is the single figure most scrutinised by the market, auditors and Canva's own leadership as we move toward public-company operations. A Staff-level owner of this domain closes the current gap between the complexity of the Rev Recognition and O2C decision space and the seniority needed to own it credibly — reducing SOX risk, giving Finance a single accountable technical voice across Sales Systems, Revenue Platforms, and Finance Data, and ensuring the architecture we land on is one this person can defend under real scrutiny rather than one assembled by committee.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Developing a strong understanding of Canva's end-to-end B2B & B2C Order to Cash process and the systems that support it - including NetSuite (B2B billing), Zuora (revenue recognition), payment gateways, collections management and downstream reporting - and triaging all major changes to these systems or their integrations

  • Own system and process improvement projects across stakeholders including Revenue Platform Engineering, Finance Data Platform, Business Data Platform and Finance Revenue Operations, as well as external vendors

  • Stay current with changes across the O2C system landscape and support the Finance team in assessing impacts on financial reporting and underlying business logic

  • Maintain/build working knowledge of adjacent systems - including sales compensation, and general ledger integrations - to support cross-system change assessment and ensure data integrity across the Finance platform

  • Assist the Finance team in implementing system monitoring controls (SOX & ITGC) and audits to ensure data accuracy, compliance, and adherence to established policies and procedures

  • Perform troubleshooting and technical root cause analysis in collaboration with stakeholders to deliver permanent solutions

  • Continuously assess system performance and identify opportunities for improvement, implementing optimisation strategies to enhance efficiency and user experience

  • Collate and maintain all relevant documentation throughout the process as required by advisors, auditors and management

You're probably a match if you have

We are looking for a talented, outcome-driven individual who has:

  • 10+ years in finance systems engineering, with deep hands-on experience in Order to Cash and revenue recognition; public company / SOX environment experience is highly desirable

  • Demonstrated ownership of a multi-system architecture decision not just implementation of a defined solution, ideally spanning ERP, billing, and revenue recognition platforms

  • A track record of being given a vague, high-stakes mandate and independently shaping it into a scoped, resourced technical roadmap that senior stakeholders acted on

  • Comfort operating as the technical authority in a room of Finance and Engineering stakeholders where the recommendation itself, not just the implementation, is being challenged

  • Working knowledge across adjacent systems (Sales Systems, Revenue Platforms, Finance Data, sales compensation, general ledger) sufficient to reason about cross-system impact without needing to be the domain expert in each

  • Strong grounding in ASC 606/IFRS 15 and the ability to translate O2C and revenue recognition requirements into system architecture, not just configuration

  • Proficiency in SQL and data tooling to investigate cross-system discrepancies at the architecture level

  • Evidence of authoring standards or frameworks that other engineers or teams have adopted beyond your own immediate team

We’d also love if you had:

  • Ability to operate and be successful in high growth B2B and B2C environments, and thrive on problem solving and dealing with ambiguity, willing to get your hands dirty when needed. Be comfortable with chaos.

  • A track record of mentoring senior (B2/B3) engineers without formal reporting lines

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Comfort holding a technical position under scrutiny from Finance leadership, and revising it credibly when the evidence warrants

  • Proactive, independent to get work done and collaborative to bring people on the journey. We are a team of team players!

About the team

The Information Technology (IT) Group’s vision is to maximise the potential of every Canvanaut through world class technology & service. We realise our vision through our mission pillars to evolve business operations, accelerate productivity and future proof our foundations which serve as the basis for the IT strategies we execute upon.

As part of the IT - Business Platforms Group, the Finance Systems team supports the evaluation, implementation, administration, and ongoing innovation of the technology stack across the Finance & Accounting domains. Our team is solving some of Canva’s biggest challenges by automating and improving the quality of our processes to allow our employees to do their best work at a place they love. We strive to be integrated with the Finance strategy so we can realise our vision of being the best company in the world.

About the role
This is a domain systems engineering role for someone who designs and builds cross-functional capability, rather than owning a single system in isolation. You'll be given a goal with a large number of technical unknowns — e.g. "define Canva's target-state revenue recognition architecture" — and be expected to:

  • Assess every system that touches or is impacted by that goal (NetSuite, Zuora, Snowflake, Sales Systems, Revenue Platforms, Finance Data) to establish complexity and business priority

  • Develop the technical proposal where no existing playbook applies

  • Bring a resourcing and sequencing recommendation to group leadership, not just a technical design

  • Be the go-to person other engineering teams route through when their work touches revenue recognition or O2C

You'll partner deeply with Finance leadership, Revenue Platform Engineering, Finance Data Platform, Sales Systems, and Business Data Platform and represent Canva's technical position to vendors (Zuora/Netsuite/Workato) at a strategic level, not just an operational one.
