About this role
About the Department
Assesses traffic and enforces South Carolina Motor Vehicle Laws on commercial motor carrier vehicles and drivers, decreasing the incidence of commercial motor carrier and vehicle truck collisions, injuries, deaths and damage to our streets, highways and bridges caused by such vehicle's unsafe condition, excessive weight and/or inappropriate or unlawful driver behavior.
Observes and monitors subordinates daily and assign duties.
Patrols streets/highways enforcing all motor vehicle laws with the primary focus on commercial motor vehicles (CMV). Conducts roadside driver/vehicle inspections using the North American Inspection Standard Procedure. Investigates complaints concerning CMV's in their perspective region.
Assists the Sergeant with all document reports and conducts line inspections, reviewing and monitoring Officers' time in South Carolina Enterprise Information System (SCEIS) and activity reports in SmartCop.
Able to work with minimum supervision and assumes command of the region in the absence and/or at the instruction of the Sergeant.
Prepares Employees Performance Management Systems reviews (EPMS) and submits them to headquarters correctly and in a timely manner.
Attends continuous in-service training for recertification and maintaining all State and Federal Certifications.
Position Duties
- Employee must have a high school diploma and experience performing patrol or investigative duties with a public law enforcement agency.
- Must have attained the rank of Lance Corporal for at least six (6) continuous months.
- Must be commissioned/certified law enforcement officer by the SC Criminal Justice Academy.
- Must maintain the ability to communicate effectively with the public, co-workers and supervisors.
- This employee is under general supervision of a group supervisor in the chain of command.
- This employee manages and supervises large groups of personnel.
- This employee performs regular inspections of personnel and their issued equipment.
- Reviews employees reports and work activities.
