Job Description
The Sterile Processing Education Coordinator (SPEC) is responsible for the initial and ongoing education of the Sterile Processing Technicians. Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Manager the SPEC is responsible for developing training objectives. The SPEC will create a curriculum and implement courses to support these objectives. The SPEC will monitor progress and provide feedback to those being trained.
Teaching activities include department orientation, initial training of reprocessing staff, certification training, ongoing education for re-certification and in-services. The SPEC is responsible for the development, oversight and evaluation of quality assurance initiatives within Sterile Processing. Opportunities for quality improvement will be identified, and programs developed, to ensure understanding and compliance by all staff. The SPEC will work closely with the Sterile Processing Manager while monitoring employee development and identifying opportunities for improvement. The SPEC will provide input to employee performance appraisals, employee improvement plans and competency assessments. The SPEC is expected to attend educational opportunities related to sterile processing and workforce education.

Education:
- High School Graduate
- CRCST Certified or CSPDT certified CER or CFER Certified- Associate is expected to obtain within 1 year of hire date
- Three years’ experience in Sterile Processing
- Must possess strong written and verbal communications skills
- Training Experience
- Ability to use MS Office
- Well versed in AAMI ST 79 & 91 standards and AORN Recommended Practices
- Ability to coach, mentor, train and evaluate work results
