In this role, you will work alongside experienced nurses and interdisciplinary teams, contributing to safe, compassionate care while building a strong clinical foundation for your future nursing career.

Role Highlights

  • PRN, self-scheduled role (minimum 8 hours per pay period)
  • Flexible shift options: 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, 3:30 PM–7:30 PM, 3:00 PM–11:30 PM, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
  • 1 holiday per year (employee-selected) and 1 weekend shift every 6 weeks
  • Opportunity to support 65+ inpatient units and diverse patient populations
  • Shift differentials for nights & weekends
  • Hands-on patient care including vital signs, accuchecks, bathing, feeding, transport, and patient safety observation
  • Collaborative environment with RNs, charge nurses, social workers, case coordinators, and unit support teams

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program
  • Completion of nursing fundamentals required

Orientation & Training

  • Completion of required PCT training class
  • Initial two-week full-time commitment on days to support onboarding and skill development

Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Recognizing its excellence in nursing care, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

To provide the hospital with an additional source of Registered Nurses for use by all patient care areas within Barnes-Jewish Hospital. To provide staffing support that accommodates changes in patient census and acuity. To augment staffing needs during unscheduled ETO when other staffing options are not available. To assist in the cost effective utilization of nursing personnel to promote the delivery of quality patient care.


Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Provides multi-skilled, direct patient care, under the direction and supervision of a registered professional nurse. This job requires completion of a foundational nursing skills course or equivalent (fundamentals, foundations, or adult/peds health.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
  • Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
  • Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nursing team.
  • Collects clinical data and information on patients and reports abnormal findings to the nurse.
  • Instructs patients in preparations for tests and procedures.
