This unique, system-wide float role offers the opportunity to support patients in a variety of acute care settings while building clinical confidence and skills alongside experienced caregivers. Role Highlights

  • Part-time position – 24 hours per week
  • Weekend requirement: 24 hours every third weekend
  • Holiday rotation: 1 summer and 1 winter holiday
  • Flexible scheduling through BJC Flex
  • Same-day assignment model – you know when you work, with opportunities to gain experience across multiple locations and units
  • Care for diverse patient populations in ED, ICU, PACU, telemetry, and med/surg
  • $3/hour float differential for bedside shifts
  • Shift differentials available
  • Mileage reimbursement

Key Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program
  • Completion of nursing fundamentals with clinical component required
  • Willingness to travel to all East Region locations (including Illinois)
  • Ability to adapt quickly and provide compassionate, patient-centered care in new environments
  • Must submit end-of-term grades and upcoming school schedule to remain active
  • Initial 3-week full-time training commitment to support your success

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Provides multi-skilled, direct patient care, under the direction and supervision of a registered professional nurse. This job requires completion of a foundational nursing skills course or equivalent (fundamentals, foundations, or adult/peds health.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
  • Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
  • Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nursing team.
  • Collects clinical data and information on patients and reports abnormal findings to the nurse.
  • Instructs patients in preparations for tests and procedures.
