Summary
Substitutes are important to the success of the total school program and are expected to perform in place of the regular scheduled employee as directed by the school administrator. Substitutes carry out all duties assigned to facilitate the instructional process and to provide for a safe, educationally productive environment in the classroom, the school or the workplace. Substitutes are expected to support FCPS mission to inspire, enable, and empower students to meet high academic standards, lead ethical lives and demonstrate responsible citizenship. Duties may include the planning, delivery and assessment of instruction, communication, human relations, safety and management of a classroom or assigned instructional setting.

Qualifications
A minimum of 60 college credits is required. An exception may be provided for applicants who do not have a minimum of 60 college credits. The exceptions are:
- Completed a high school teacher preparatory course, such as Teachers for Tomorrow
- Employed as an Instructional Assistant for at least two school years at a K12 organization
- Completed two full years of experience teaching preschool or in a school aged childcare program
- Completed two full years as a classroom or student monitor
Must be able to understand, follow, and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing; work effectively with children, young adults, faculty, and staff; and perform all required tasks, as assigned.
Preferred:
• Bachelors Degree
• Licensed Teacher (any state)
• Retired/Former teacher
