Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of HR Operations and partnering closely with the Organizational Effectiveness Center of Excellence, this role provides hands-on support across core HR processes while gaining exposure to strategic people initiatives that strengthen organizational capability and impact.

This internship offers a comprehensive view of human resources in a complex nonprofit environment, including talent acquisition, onboarding, HR systems, compliance, employee engagement, workforce analytics, and organizational development. The intern will assist with day-to-day operational activities, contribute to process improvement efforts, and support initiatives aligned with culture, performance, leadership development, and change management.

This internship is Hybrid with 2 to 3 days onsite primarily assigned to Columbia HQ Office with visits to Baltimore and occasionally Bethesda HQ.

Job Description

Responsibilities 

  • Assist with special projects related to HR operations, employee engagement, onboarding, and HR metrics. 
  • Work with the HR team to research best practices, develop possible new approaches, and create tools and templates.   
  • Help collect, organize, and perform basic analysis on data related to people processes, organizational effectiveness initiatives, and the employee user experience. 
  • Support the use of HR systems, surveys, and collaboration tools to improve efficiency and enhance the employee experience. 
  • Assist with documenting and mapping people processes and components of the HR operating model to improve clarity, consistency, and alignment across the organization. 
  • Help create summaries and presentation materials that communicate organizational effectiveness work clearly to different audiences. 
  • Perform audit of HR files and records. 
  • Assist in creating materials and/or presentations for meetings. 
  • Maintaining human resources files, records, and documentation in SharePoint. 
  • Support internal communications related to HR programs, policies, and organizational updates 
  • Conduct research and benchmarking on HR best practices, nonprofit trends, and regulatory changes 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and mission-aligned, with strong communication skills and a desire to understand how operational excellence and people strategy drive organizational performance.  
  • This role is well-suited for an emerging HR professional seeking practical experience at the intersection of HR operations and organizational effectiveness within a purpose-driven organization. 
  • Working toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology or a related field. 
  • Demonstrated interest in Human Resources, nonprofit operations, or organizational effectiveness 
  • Strong academic performance and ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with HRIS systems, applicant tracking systems, or learning management systems is a plus 
  • Comfort working with data, including basic reporting, analysis, and interpretation 
  • Exposure to automation tools, workflow optimization, or process improvement methodologies is highly desirable 
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and confidentiality 
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to identify trends and recommend practical solutions 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships across levels of the organization 
  • Flexible, adaptable, and responsive to shifting priorities 
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and eager to learn in a mission-driven nonprofit environment

Total Rewards at Enterprise:  

  • You will be working with a group of talented professionals who are motivated by serving the community and addressing the need for affordable housing.
  • The base pay for this role is $20 to $24 for undergraduate students and $24-$28 for graduate students, depending on level of skills and experience.
  • The salary range for this position is represented by the low and high end of the range for the amount to be paid for the position.
