This position, along with two other supervising staff engineers and an administrative assistant, reports to the Assistant Director of CEM Engineering.

This position is accountable for the management of the electrical policies and systems for the company and supervision of the electrical and controls engineering team. This combined team maintains engineering standards and specifications used to construct our facilities and processing lines to ensure compliance with all applicable codes and the highest standards of sanitary design. This team also manages many technical programs and provides daily support to our manufacturing facilities in person and via virtual means. 

Relocation is eligible for this role. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the corporate electrical engineering team to provide the technical design and support needed across the company.  This includes a team of engineers and an hourly technician.  Ensure team members follow Company policies and standards and complete projects efficiently.  Recommends when third-party engineering firms are needed for specialized design; and supports the team’s professional growth and development.

  • Owns the corporate electrical engineering standards for industrial power systems, from medium-voltage distribution (15kV-class / 13.8kV switchgear) through low-voltage power (480V gear, MCCs, transformers) down to low-voltage controls. Keeps these standards aligned with the NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B, and applicable codes. 

  • Applies enterprise Operational Technology (OT) and Industrial Control System (ICS) standards, including:

    • Establishing and maintaining OT cybersecurity standards, including network segmentation, firewall architecture and rules management, secure remote access, and defense-in-depth controls.

    • Defining and governing OT software and platform standards, including Rockwell Automation platforms, FactoryTalk View SE, digital chart recording systems, and related industrial applications.

    • Providing enterprise-level technical leadership and support for OT systems, including governance of support models, lifecycle management, and coordination of 24x7x365 operational support.

    • Partners with Cyber Security and IT Infrastructure teams to develop, implement, and maintain secure, reliable, and resilient OT environments.

    • Participates in the OT Incident Response Team, providing controls, automation, and electrical engineering expertise for the detection, analysis, containment, recovery, and post-incident review of OT/ICS events. Supports the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of OT cybersecurity exercises, incident simulations, and disaster recovery testing.

    • And Potentially:

      • Leads the development and governance of enterprise OT/ICS standards and serves as the primary technical authority for industrial controls technologies across the organization.

 

  • Reviews and provides guidance on all electrical infrastructure designs and controls systems being implemented at facilities across the company and serves as the internal technical authority regarding these systems.

  • Leads the electrical safety program for North American facilities, including the arc flash program, NFPA 70E safe work practices, and the NFPA 70B electrical maintenance program. 

  • Leads continuous improvement initiatives that make the electrical team more effective and efficient.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

   A bachelor’s degree in engineering or another technical field or all of the following:

  • Five years of pertinent experience in technical field.

  • Minimum six months of maintenance supervisory at Hormel Foods.Proven ability to lead projects through Hormel Foods’ project management processes.

   Knowledge of Hormel Foods’ design standards, product manufacturing processes, and manufacturing facilities.

   Understanding of financial accounting policies for capital projects.

   Ability to utilize software and tools associated with engineering work and project management including AutoCAD, Oracle, Businessmap, and Excel.

   Ability to participate in or lead a project in a diverse team environment using generally accepted project management best practices.

   A strong pattern of initiative, innovation, and creativity.

   Proven team leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

   Well-developed organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

   Ability to prioritize and balance many tasks simultaneously.

   CMRP (Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional) certification, or ability to achieve in 18 months.

   Ability to travel overnight up to 20% of the time.

   Good driving record consistent with standards that allow for use of the Company fleet of vehicles.

Preferred

   Degree and experience in electrical or controls engineering.

   Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain.

   Previously obtained or current Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

The base pay range for this position $122,275 to $171,200 per year; however, actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills set, level of experience, and specific office location.
