The Fresno County Department of Public Works and Planning invites applications for the position of Supervising Surveyor. Incumbents plan, direct, and manage a surveying or mapping section of the Office of the County Surveyor; and performs related work as required.

Other Qualifications

Experience: Three (3) years of full-time, paid professional work experience performing surveying or mapping duties in the field or in an office setting, one (1) year of which must have been gained in a supervisory capacity over professional staff.

License: Possession of a valid Land Surveyor license issued by the State of California, Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists.

Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent.

Substitution: Possession of a valid Civil Engineer license issued by the State of California, Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists prior to January 1, 1982, may substitute for a Land Surveyor license.

Note: Recruitment or certification may be limited to candidates possessing a specific education, experience or certification background related to the specific position vacancy as authorized by the Director of Human Resources.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur. Should a recruitment be open on a continuous basis, eligibles shall be certified in the order they are received not to exceed the maximum certification the department is entitled to.

  • Interviews will be conducted approximately two weeks following candidate certification to the hiring department.

  • The eligible list for this recruitment may be extended up to 12 months and may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. 
  • Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.

Positions in this classification are in Medical Group III - Heavy Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds. Generally, considerable bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved. Physical stamina is usually required and explosive strength using bursts of energy may be required, depending upon specific position assignments.
