THE DAY PRIOR TO THE END DATE LISTED ON THIS JOB POSTING***The North Carolina Department of Revenue is recruiting for a Support Specialist in our Excise Tax Division. The Support Specialist serves as one of our customer service agents. Primary duties will include assisting taxpayers on the phone and in-person with questions related to motor fuels and motor carrier tax law information. This position may also greet walk-in taxpayers and assist them with questions while in the office. The Support Specialist is responsible for assisting taxpayers inquiring about motor fuels tax procedures forms, and fuel decals, along with providing support to other units within the division. This position provides guidance and instruction to taxpayers in completing their tax returns, issuing fuel decals, accept remittances and collecting payments due for delinquent returns. Responsibility for processing registration applications, distributing mail, performing receptionist duties, and assisting in maintaining the central files for the division is also a duty for this position.
Due to the high volume of work received during the Motor Carrier Renewal season (September – February) work hours may be extended, and vacation leave may be restricted.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Strong customer service skills
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to explain and interpret information to clients/customers and staff
Basic skill level using Microsoft Word and Excel
Management Preference: Fluency in both English and Spanish languages with excellent translation skills
Recruitment Range: $39,244 - $40,281
