Maintain ongoing communication with RN circulator regarding the surgical procedure and patient status.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3ESelect, inspect, and open surgical supplies and equipment in a timely manner according to the physician%27s preference list.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EProperly perform a surgical hand scrub and gown self and others.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3ECreate and maintain a sterile field with the essential surgical supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure in a timely, functional, and organized manner. Maintain high standards of aseptic technique during surgical procedure. Takes corrective action for breaks in aseptic technique.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EEnsure patient safety by checking all equipment for proper working order prior to the surgical procedure.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EPerform sponge, sharps, and formal/inventory instrument counts with the RN circulator at proper count intervals.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EProperly pass surgical instruments and anticipate surgeon%27s needs during the surgical procedure.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EClean and prepare surgical instruments for terminal sterilization. Assist with operating room turnover.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EOrganize and prioritize preoperative tasks based on identified need. Demonstrate competency to operate surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment. Demonstrates proficiency and independence.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EServe as a technical subject matter person, resource person, and/or preceptor to preoperative nursing staff rotating through specialty service. Complete written clinical performance evaluation form in a timely manner.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3ESafely handle and operate surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment and perform safe preoperative care in a manner that is cost effective without compromising quality of care.%3C/li%3E%3Cli%3EProblem-solve minor issues of counts/errors, patient care, relationships, equipment, supplies, and the environment prior to management intervention.
