Job Description
The Surgical Technologist Trainee is utilizing skills learned through a recognized Career Pathways Academic Program. The program will combine work-based, on-the-job learning with relevant technical education in the classroom to start on a career path that continues after high school graduation.
Under the direction of the Career Pathways Academic Program, will be responsible for a variety of tasks and services to assist in the provision of care and comfort for patients in accordance with those procedures, acts and processes permitted by law, for which the individual has received education and clinical experience and has demonstrated competency. Trainees will only be expected to perform provisions of care for which they have received training and instruction as directed by the Career Pathways Academic Program. This position requires application of clinical, cooperative, and independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to complete provision of care.
Qualifications:
- People who have been accepted and enrolled in the Fall 2026 Surgical Technology Associate Degree Program at Madison College (MATC) with pending completion in May 2028
- BLS certification within 3 months of hire
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of the patients served in the perioperative setting
- Knowledgeable in aseptic technique, scrub skills, anatomy, and surgical procedures.
- Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
Is there a cost?
You will be provided the following:
- Program Tuition
- Compensation provided for classroom hours (24 hours a week).
- Flexible schedule and work requirements that are feasible while in school (8 hours a week)
- Qualifies for benefits within UPH-Meriter at a 0.8FTE. Will work in a benefit eligible .5FTE-.8FTE role June 2027-August 2027.
- Full time employment upon successful completion/graduation of Surgical Technology program in May 2028.
