What we are looking for

We are seeking an independent, forward-thinking Associate or Staff Analyst/Specialist to assist with the workload of diverse, challenging solid waste projects in the Mid-Atlantic area, as well as other parts of the country. Initially this individual will be expected to provide field research and analytical support for our existing Sustainable Materials Management (SMM) practice, which concentrates on solid waste studies projects related to waste and recyclable material characterization, zero waste initiatives, food waste recycling, landfill diversion initiatives, and waste/recyclable material collections, transfer, processing and sorting, as well as treatment and disposal.

You will have the opportunity to support waste characterization activities, collections ride-alongs, site audits, field reconnaissance, and other waste/recycling projects for private and municipal clients. The position includes opportunities for solid waste and recyclable material field sorting, report writing, and data analytics. The position is anticipated to be based out of our Reston, Virginia office.

How you can make an impact

  • Supporting new and existing SMM-focused projects involving recycling technical assistance, waste reduction and diversion, organics management, waste and recyclable material characterization studies, route optimization studies for collections, citizen’s convenience center analyses, solid waste management plans and strategies, and more;
  • Work will involve field activities such as collection of waste and recyclable material samples, attending meetings, site inspections, oversight of waste sorting and field research activities, etc.
  • Conduct and document field quality assurance observations to confirm compliance with scope of services documents.
  • Technical work may include preparation for field mobilization, execution of field research, data analytics, completing calculations, computer modeling, and report preparation.
  • Coordinate with waste and recycling program Owners, facility operation contractors, subcontractors, and regulatory personnel, as directed.
  • Client interaction and preparation of proposals on an as needed basis.
  • Periodic travel is required.
