About this role

This is a 1.0 FTE located within the Office of Special Education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students based on extensive knowledge of evidence-based counseling
    theories and techniques, to include cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy.
  • Create individualized, data-driven counseling goals to support school success, based on knowledge of child
    development and psychopathology.
  • Assist in developing positive behavioral interventions and supports to be implemented in the classroom.
    Communicate orally and in writing with students, staff, and families using excellent oral and written communication
    skills.
  • Manage records and written communication using basic technology skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Power
    Point, Google Docs).


EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working as a therapist in public school system or pediatric clinical setting.
  • Experience working directly with students K -- 12.
  • Knowledge of the resources and programs of the Arlington Public Schools and the local community.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws (e.g., IDEA, Section 504).
  • Experience with program planning for students and families.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure.
  • Licensure as a clinical psychologist, clinical social worker, or professional counselor.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area, is
    preferred but not required.

 

Salary based on the 2026-27 salary schedule.
