The Ohio Department of Taxation is seeking one (1) Tax Examiner Specialist in the Tax Equalization - Research and Statistics Division.
What You’ll do as a Tax Examiner Specialist:
- Review abstracts, parcel data submissions, valuation updates, and other county provided materials to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, DTE procedures, and revaluation schedules.
- Analyze full tax rate to effective tax rate ratios, reduction factors, voted tax rates, and other assessment related data to support statewide equalization efforts.
- Use software tools, including Microsoft Excel, NCSS, and SAS, to develop and apply statistical methods that evaluate real property valuation and equalization across counties.
- Prepare and maintain reports and records that support the Division’s oversight of county appraisal performance and real property assessment accuracy.
- Research and apply technical and procedural guidelines to verify, adjust, or reconcile real property assessment data using DTE databases and tax system tools.
- Respond to routine inquiries from county auditors, taxpayers, and their representatives regarding real property assessment issues and data discrepancies.
- Use tax system software, database queries, document management tools, email, and spreadsheets to obtain and maintain records for each inquiry or data action, including contacts and notes.

Undergraduate core program in business related field or public administration which included 3 courses in accounting; 27 mos. exp. in customer service; Graduate core program in business related field or public administration which included 3 courses in accounting; 15 mos. exp. in customer service;
-Or 36 mos. exp. in the Tax Examiner series, 6681, which includes 12 mos. exp. as a Tax Examiner, 66812. For positions performing audits per the approved Position Description on file, qualifications are established in accordance with O.R.C. 5703.17. Must provide own transportation unless State vehicle is provided.
