ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION:
This is a leave of absence contract from September 2, 2026 through December 18, 2026. An
elementary physical education teacher fosters and enhances a positive and effective learning
environment; facilitates the development and revision of curriculum and instructional materials;
establishes learning objectives and delivers standards-based instruction aligned with Washington
State K–12 Learning Standards for Health and Physical Education; provides high-quality instruction;
supervises and supports student behavior and well-being; and evaluates student performance and
progress to meet the individual needs of assigned students.
Additional Information about This Position: To perform this job successfully, an individual must

Essential Functions:
• Fosters an educational environment conducive to the learning and maturation process of
assigned students; plans an instructional program designed to meet individual/collective
student needs; prepares lesson plans; adapts and modifies programs and plans as
necessary.

the individual building setting—must possess strong listening and problem-solving
skills; demonstrate excellent classroom management skills and communicate
effectively and clearly with others.
• Uses necessary and appropriate District instructional methods and materials, which are

program and/or curriculum involved; implements established program or curriculum
objectives; attends in-service training and continues to improve professional growth

procedures governing student behavior and conduct; provides guidance, counseling, and
discipline to encourage students to meet standards of achievement and conduct; makes
referrals for assistance where appropriate.
• Confers with students, parents or guardians, specialists, and other staff;

evaluation, and to encourage student achievement; works to establish and
maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents or

necessary by the District and/or building principal in order to accomplish the
objectives of the position and for professional achievement.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Leave of Absence position. Leave benefits and medical benefits are per negotiated LEA
agreement. Salary as per LEA negotiated agreement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully
perform the essential functions of a elementary Physical Education teacher. The position
regularly requires active engagement in a physical learning environment, including
demonstrating, monitoring, and facilitating student physical activity.
The employee is frequently required to stand and move throughout indoor and outdoor
instructional spaces for extended periods of time. The role may involve occasional lifting,
carrying, pushing, or pulling of instructional equipment or materials. The employee may also
occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or reach as part of instructional supervision and setup of
activities.
The position regularly requires walking, standing, and active movement, with frequent bending
or twisting at the neck and trunk while demonstrating skills, supervising students, or managing
equipment and activity stations.
This role requires visual abilities including close, distance, and peripheral vision to ensure
student safety and effective supervision in a dynamic physical activity setting.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment includes both indoor and outdoor instructional settings, such as
gymnasiums, athletic fields, and other school facilities. The employee regularly works in active,
high-movement environments where students are engaged in physical activity.
The noise level in the work environment is frequently moderate to high due to student
participation in physical activities and group instruction. The employee is responsible for the
supervision, safety, and well-being of students during all instructional and activity periods

and must be able to effectively interact with students, staff, and others in a dynamic
setting.
Weather conditions may occasionally affect outdoor instructional activities, requiring
flexibility and appropriate supervision adjustments.
EVALUATION:
Completed at least annually by the employee’s immediate supervisor in accordance with board
policies and the LEA’s negotiated agreement regarding certificated employees.
