Tommie Mascot Handler/Social Media Intern

JOB TITLE: Tommie Mascot

LOCATION: St. Paul Campus (potential to travel)

PAY RATE: $17/hr

HOURS: 4+ Hours a week (dependent on number of events each week/weekend)

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Tommie Mascot Handler/Social Media Intern position is a hybrid role that combines hands-on experience working with our beloved mascot, Tommie, at athletic events and other campus appearances, with creative support for social media content across the Tommie Mascot social media channels. This position provides valuable experience in event operations, marketing, and digital media.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Mascot Handling

• Assist in donning, doffing, and maintaining the Tommie costume.
• Serve as the primary handler during athletic events, community appearances, and campus events.
• Ensure performer safety and assist in executing mascot interactions with fans and athletes.
• Coordinate logistics for appearances and maintain the mascot’s presentation standards.

Social Media & Marketing

• Capture photos and video of mascot appearances and athletic events.
• Assist in creating engaging content for TikTok, Instagram, and other social channels.
• Collaborate with the marketing team on campaign ideas and execution.
• Track social media metrics and support reporting for marketing initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Strong interest in sports, marketing, and social media.
• Ability to lift and assist with a mascot costume (~30–50 lbs).
• Comfortable performing in front of crowds and camera-ready for social media content.
• Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
• Experience with photography, videography, or social media content creation preferred but not required.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
