Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor - Permits

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will oversee permit review, coordination, and inspection activities that support safe use of state roadways. You will need to apply strong leadership skills and pay careful attention to detail while managing staff and guiding applicants through the permit process. As a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:

• Program Oversight: Manage permit programs and ensure consistency with agency goals
• Staff Leadership: Guide inspectors and consultant personnel in processing applications and inspections
• Application Review: Coordinate the review of complex submissions with District and Central Office staff
• Quality Control: Direct efforts to maintain accuracy, efficiency, and customer service in permit activities
• Safety Focus: Support safe practices and communicate safety expectations during permit-related work

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, upon successful completion of your probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hollidaysburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year as a Transportation Construction Inspector; or
• Two years of construction inspection experience and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

• This position requires possession of a valid non- commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.

This position is subject to the provisions of a collective bargaining agreement or memorandum of understanding. 

You must be eligible for selection in accordance with merit system employment regulations.

• Class Restrictions for Promotion Without Examination Only - You must have or have held regular civil service status in one of the following classifications: 
  • Transportation Construction Inspector
• Employees who previously held regular civil service status in the job title of the position being filled are also eligible for promotion without examination.
• The promotion without examination requirements are issued in accordance with merit system employment regulations.
• Meritorious service is defined as (a) the absence of any discipline above the level of written reprimand during the 12 months preceding the closing date of the posting, and (b) the last regular or probationary performance evaluation showing an overall rating of satisfactory or higher. 
• Applicants must have a minimum of one year in the next lower class by the posting closing date with no break in service.
