Job Description

Under the supervision of the Trauma Program Director and Nurse Registrars establishes and maintains efficient operations of the Trauma Registry to meet the Pennsylvania Trauma System Foundation and other data collection and other reporting requirements. They will provide additional support to the Trauma Program though other delegated coordination and secretarial responsibilities.

Ensures patient/customer satisfaction by respecting confidentiality and privacy, treating with courtesy, dignity and respect; considering the needs of everyone; and responding to customer concerns in a timely manner.

  • Reviews the medical record both concurrently and retrospectively to abstract information for inclusion in the Trauma Registry
  • Identifies trauma cases, using established criteria by retrieving appropriate information for inclusion into trauma registry.
  • Maintains accurate records to ensure complete and organized trauma database.
  • Abstracts data concurrently for the National Trauma Bank and for the Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP).
  • Completes the beginner Trauma Registry course within 1 year of hire and completes an ICD-10 refresher course every 5 years.
  • Completed the Abbreviated Injury Scale Course within 1 year of hire.
  • Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) required within 2 years of hire.
  • Completes monthly TQIP educational sessions and completes testing.
  • Participates in the Performance Improvement process by attending and participating in trauma meetings as assigned.
  • Participates in PTSF Fall Conference, or other additional PTSF forums, and the Annual TQIP Meeting as directed by the Trauma Program Director.
  • Attends trauma related continuing education in-services to maintain knowledge base, required to complete at least 8 contact hours annual as evidenced by certificates of attendance.
  • Complies and submits designated reports and summaries according to established deadlines and to assist in efficient and effective program operation.

Qualifications

High School or post high school training in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, ICD 10 coding preferred. RHIS, RHIT or CSTR or equivalent in training/experience preferred.

CSTR/CAISS certification preferred. Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries within 2 years of hire required.

Knowledge on anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and clinical/therapeutic modalities. Knowledge of ICD10-CM coding and AIS scoring. Ability to work independently under general supervision. Organization skills. Database management.
