About this role

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 20 years of experience working in engineering organizations spanning work across engineering, product, technical program management, and operations.

Preferred qualifications:

  • MBA or Master's degree or PhD in engineering.
  • Understand the complex relationship between the organization and its environment, identifies connections, adopts different perspectives and quickly responds to changing circumstances in a strategic way.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across organizational boundaries, build relationships, and import and export talent and ideas to achieve a broader organizational goal.
  • Comfort with changing specifications or standards, and ability to create the conditions in which a team feels comfortable and capable of working through in response to ambiguity.
  • Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, and organizational skills.

About the job

As part of the AI and Infrastructure (AI2) organization, and Vice President of Strategy and Operations, you will enable cross-cutting and horizontal teams to deliver critical infrastructure to our customers. This executive leader will be responsible for leading the following key areas for AI2:

AI2 Operations, leading comprehensive operational efforts including annual planning, resource management (i.e., headcount and operating budget), and space planning for a global team of employees, while driving the organization's OKR framework; AI2 Identity and Leadership Forums, defining the organization's identity, values, and external presence. This includes the end-to-end strategy, planning, and execution for all AI2 leadership forums to ensure internal alignment and strong partnerships with other Google Product Areas; AI2 Strategic Consulting, identifying, evaluating, and recommending concrete approaches for new strategic initiatives designed to improve, accelerate, or streamline critical organizational efforts; AI2 Transformation, managing the design, program management, and tracking of AI2-wide efforts to reinvent delivery models. This encompasses product innovation, infrastructure delivery, and organizational design using a comprehensive, metrics-based approach; AI2 Technical Programs, directing program management for the technical and operational programs across the AI2 landscape; AI2 Product Area Engagement, leading partnerships and coordination with each of Google's Product Areas to ensure that AI2 technical infrastructure consistently exceeds evolving business requirements; and AI2 Cloud Product Operations, leading product operations for Google Cloud Compute Engine, GKE, and IaaS, including both standard compute and specialized AI offerings.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $550,000 (USD) + (80%) bonus + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Develop a consistent scaled strategic narrative across all components of the AI2 cross-cutting teams, synthesizing major communication decisions between senior management and the broader organization, and ensuring strategy and priority alignment.
  • Establish and run a solid business cadence, driving regular business reviews with executive stakeholders, annual strategic planning, headcount and budget management, conflict management, organizational communications, running programs to improve growth, development, training in the organization, etc.
  • Manage and lead critical strategic initiatives across AI2 developing compelling and insightful recommendations to the Cloud leadership team by analyzing strategic questions, identifying key priorities, and aligning with cross-functional partners across Engineering, Product, and Sales.
  • Lead AI2 projects, both short-term deep reviews and complex cross-functional multi-disciplinary projects, from start to finish, structuring and executing analyses required to develop recommendations, and communicating findings to senior management.
