Job Description:Position Description
In preparation for the November 3, 2026, General Election, the Department of Elections is seeking applications for seasonal positions of Voter Information Pamphlet Typesetter.
Before every local election, the Department produces the Official Voter Information Pamphlet for distribution to San Francisco voters. The Official Voter Information Pamphlet comes in a variety of accessible formats and in five languages (English, Chinese, Spanish, Filipino, and Vietnamese) to inform San Francisco’s electorate. To support this project the Department’s Publications team prepares, formats, and typesets hundreds of pages of election materials, ensuring a consistent, accurate, and print-ready final product under strict production deadlines.
In addition to the range of duties assigned to the 1404 job code, https://careers.sf.gov/classifications/?classCode=1404&setId=COMMN, the persons in these positions will perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:
- Use Adobe InDesign to format and typeset translated versions of the Official Voter Information Pamphlet.
- Review typeset materials for formatting accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
- Work collaboratively with Publications team to meet production deadlines.
- Assisting with other elections-related tasks as needed.
Position Schedule, Requirements, and Work Location
These are seasonal positions with a tentative start date of August 24, 2026. The initial assignment, which focuses on typesetting the Voter Information Pamphlet, is expected to continue through approximately September 18, 2026.
Following the completion of the typesetting assignment, additional temporary assignments are expected to be available through approximately November 13, 2026, depending on the Department's operational needs. These assignments provide an opportunity for continued employment during the election cycle.
Work will be performed on site at the Department of Elections Office at City Hall, San Francisco, CA. Work hours will vary in accordance with the demands of the Official Voter Information Pamphlet Production cycle and will range between 20 and 40 hours per week.
This is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12-month period, and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits. Position Salary: $32.1625 to $39.10 hourly
$66,898 to $81,328 annually
Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:
One (1) year of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail.
Substitution: Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative Training program, or completion of a clerical training program (240 hours), or 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to 6 months of required experience.
Desirable Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will:
- Demonstrate proficiency in Adobe InDesign, with experience formatting and typesetting complex documents.
- Be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to produce accurate work under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrate the ability to quickly learn new systems, procedures, and election-related subject matter in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Be proficient in reading and writing one or more of the following languages: Traditional Chinese, Spanish, Filipino, or Vietnamese.
- Demonstrate a commitment to excellent public service and impartiality.
