Water / Wastewater Design Engineer
Robert G. Campbell and Associates is seeking an enterprising individual with high technical and interpersonal skills to be a key performer on our site design team. This role is primarily onsite, working with our teams based in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
The right candidate will apply general civil and environmental engineering design principles on a variety of public and private water / wastewater projects. Projects will include treatment facility planning and design, raw water intakes, water distribution lines, booster pump station design, regional water planning, water system mapping and management plans, lift station design, sanitary sewer system planning and design, asset management planning, and a variety of permitting.
The ideal candidate can work alongside a project manager based on project requirements, while also collaborating with designers, other engineers, and project managers to develop solutions that enhance sustainability. The position requires work from an office location, but periodic work at home can be accommodated.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and analysis of water/wastewater treatment facilities, distribution systems, and collection networks
- Work with various regulatory agencies in order to obtain the necessary approvals
- Work closely with existing private and local government clients
- Assist the project manager in supporting public clients to identify funding opportunities and assist them with various funding applications
- Work with existing site development, survey, and inspection staff to provide turn-key projects for clients
- Perform field investigations, data collection, and site inspections
- Recruit and mentor new staff in order to grow the utility design team
Qualifications
- Proficiency with water distribution and wastewater collection systems
- Experience with and understanding of topographic surveys
- Conduct hydraulic modeling and calculations
- Adhere to project budgets, cost estimates, and schedules
- Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Creating project specifications and bidding documents
- Works with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must complete a pre-employment screening; RGC&A is a drug-free workplace
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum of a BS in Civil Engineering or related discipline from an ABET accredited University or related technical certificate
- Minimum of 5 years of experience and PE licensure (licensed in the State of FL, NC, SC, or TN, or the option to be licensed quickly through reciprocity with other states)
- HAESTAD (or similar modeling software), comfortable in CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson, and/or MicroStation
- GIS proficiency or demonstrated aptitude to learn while doing
Physical and Environmental Requirements
This position can involve up to 8 hours per day in an office. Travel and client meetings are also required, with occasional standing and walking. The employee may occasionally lift lightweight office supplies and materials, typically not exceeding 20 pounds. The office environment is indoors, characterized by controlled temperatures and minimal exposure to adverse conditions. Employees must have the ability to visually discern and differentiate details and colors of objects, and proficiency in recognizing sound, tone, and pitch. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills are necessary. The role demands adaptability to interruptions and changes in workflow, as well as the capacity to sit for extended periods.
Expected Hours of Work
The RGC&A offices are open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, allowing an unpaid hour for lunch daily. Work schedules may vary according to the project schedule and deliverables. This is primarily an onsite position reporting to a RGC&A office 5 days per week. Work from home is an option depending on a variety of factors.
