Job Description:

UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking a talented and highly motivated, part-time Windows Server Site Reliability Engineer Intern to join the Infrastructure and Communication Technology, a unit within UFIT for the Summer 2026 semester. This paid internship is designed to provide students currently enrolled in college with an opportunity to learn practical skills and gain experience to propel them into a successful career in Information Technology.

Employment with UFIT provides an excellent opportunity to work with other dedicated employees focused on understanding and interpreting the technological needs of the University of Florida’s innovative and inspirational community.

This internship is within the Microsoft Platform Services team which is tasked with deploying and supporting enterprise software applications on the Microsoft Windows Server platform to the university community while ensuring high availability and reliability of campus services. Competitive candidates will have a strong understanding of the Microsoft Windows Server platform, Infrastructure as Code technologies, Monitoring and Observability technologies as well as security hardening techniques. You'll work closely with our team to build highly available servers and services while maintaining accuracy and performance. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in DevOps skills while contributing to meaningful projects that service a variety of areas including Student Affairs, employee needs, as well as UF Research.

Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are:

  • Identify and prioritize manual tasks within the UF Microsoft Platform enterprise ecosystem suitable for automation.
  • Build, test and deploy servers using DevOps tools to improve spped to services to campus stakeholders.
  • Work with team members to ensure both applications and servers are effectively monitored for both availability and performance.
  • Review security vulnerabilities across a variety of applications and servers and implement strategies to harden the security posture of those systems.

Some key learning outcomes for the student intern are:

  • Develop skills managing infrastructure using DevOps tools and automating the deployment of servers and applications
  • Design and Implement security hardening strategies across a diverse set of applications and servers
  • Gain hands-on experience managing enterprise systems impacting students, faculty, staff and visitors
  • Develop real-world problem solving skills while ensuring high availability of critical systems involved in the delivery of teaching and learning activities, research and essential business functions of the university

Expected Salary:

$15.00 per hour

Preferred:

The ideal candidate will possess the following education, experience, and skills:

  • Strong familiarity with Windows Server OS and Networking
  • Understanding of Infrastructure as Code, DevOps and automation principles
  • Experience with Gitlab, Terraform, Ansible, Containers, Packer, Vault, Nomad
  • Experience with Powershell, Go, Python, or other relevant languages is a plus
