This position is open to current Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) employees onlyThis posting is not for an appointment but to fill a temporary, Working Out of Class (WOC) assignment.  Initial duration for the WOC will be for 12 weeks, from approximately 6/20/2026 through 9/12/2026 Please note, WOC assignments are eligible for extension up to 26 pay periods and is subject to end with little to no notice, as needed.

The position is responsible for ensuring OIG-wide efficiency in technology, data, and reporting. The specialist focuses primarily on supporting the Administration by researching and analyzing business processes to maximize the effective use of information systems. This position acts as an integral part of OIG’s forward thinking and leading-edge approach as it relates to information systems and program integrity investigations. Serves as the Administration’s contact and expert on new technologies and improvements related to information systems. The position oversees the development, creation, and integration of OIG’s case management system, and custom reporting tools. This includes delivering requirements and project information to vendors and DTMB project managers and developers. Additionally, this position provides training, administrative, and technical support to OIG staff.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major. 

Experience

Departmental Specialist 13 - 15
 Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.

Preferred:

Proven experience effectively working on a project team, making decisions related to assigned tasks, analyzing business requirements, communicating system specifications, and testing information systems.

Ability to provide quality customer service, build trust through integrity of work, and build relationships through teamwork.

Knowledge of administrating and conducting analysis of information systems.

Extensive experience with SQL and/or at least one programming language.

Experience with Advanced Microsoft Excel functions and VBA macros.

Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of the WOC assignment will be based on the selected candidate's county of residence.  Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered.  Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.  

Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:

  • A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions. 
  • A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
  • Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.

As a Condition of Employment: this position requires successful completion of a background investigation and a criminal records check.  Due to the nature of this position, an additional extensive background check will be conducted on candidates being considered for the vacancy.

Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leave immediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
