Hardware engineering internships
Hardware interns design circuits, write RTL in Verilog or VHDL, prototype PCBs, or work on embedded firmware. You might end up at Apple designing chips, at Tesla working on power electronics, or at a robotics startup building sensor systems. Titles include Hardware Engineering Intern, Embedded Systems Intern, FPGA Intern, ASIC Design Intern, and Electrical Engineering Intern.
Tips for hardware engineering intern candidates
Hands-on projects carry a lot of weight. A PCB you designed, a working embedded system, or an FPGA project on your resume tells employers you can do the work. Brush up on circuit analysis, digital logic, and your preferred HDL. For embedded roles, know C and understand real-time operating systems. These roles are less common than software internships, so apply broadly and early.
