HR internship roles
HR interns work on recruiting, onboarding, employee engagement, compensation analysis, or people operations. At larger companies you might specialize in one area. At startups you'll touch everything. Common titles include Human Resources Intern, People Ops Intern, Talent Acquisition Intern, and Recruiting Intern. Tech companies, banks, healthcare systems, and consulting firms all run HR internship programs.
Getting an HR internship
HR is one of the more accessible fields for students from any major. What matters is communication skills, attention to detail, and genuine interest in how organizations work. Familiarity with an HRIS (Workday, BambooHR) or ATS (Greenhouse, Lever) is a nice bonus. In interviews, expect behavioral questions about conflict resolution, confidentiality, and working with people from different backgrounds.
