New grad cybersecurity roles
New grad security engineers work on vulnerability management, incident response, security tooling, or application security. SOC analysts monitor alerts and investigate threats. Pen testers find and report vulnerabilities before attackers do. Companies like CrowdStrike, Palo Alto Networks, Microsoft, and every major bank have entry-level security teams. Government agencies and defense contractors hire heavily too.
Getting hired in cybersecurity after graduation
Certifications like CompTIA Security+, CEH, or the OSCP can give you an edge, but they're not required everywhere. What matters is demonstrating hands-on skill. CTF write-ups, bug bounty participation, or a home lab where you practice with tools like Burp Suite, Wireshark, and Metasploit all count. There are more open security roles than qualified candidates right now, so the bar for entry-level hires is lower than you'd expect.
