Qualifications: Education/Certification: - Bachelor’s degree from accredited university - Valid Texas teaching certificate that includes Health Education or a Health endorsement - Current ESL Certification: ESL Certification required within (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in the 2010-2011 school year - Meet NCLB Highly Qualified criteria as required by assignment. - Meets district minimum requirements for content area staff development (or will meet within one (1) year Special Knowledge/Skills: - Teaching Technology Applications experience preferred - Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior - Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and time management skills Experience: - Three (3) years classroom teaching experience Major Responsibilities and Duties: - Plan and teach a program of study integrating technology and health education. - Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. - Establish and communicate clear objectives. - Employ appropriate instructional methods and materials. - Assess students’ accomplishments, continually. - Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis. - Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures. - Assist in implementing policies and rules. - Maintain professional competence through professional development. - Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities. - Implement classroom modifications for special education/504 students. Professional Growth and Development - Actively seek and participate in health and instructional technology professional growth. - Comply with state, district, and federal laws; district and campus regulations and policies for instructional specialists as they exist or may hereafter be amended. - Participate in faculty meetings and serves on staff committees as required. Other - Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. - Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief. - Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed. - Perform other duties as assigned Supervisory Responsibilities: None Evaluation: Performance in this role is evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Teachers, the Texas Teachers Evaluation and Support System. Probationary contract – 187 days plus 4 days of Alief U professional development for a teacher new to the district 2026-2027 New Salary Schedule Minimum teacher starting salary is $67,100 (base $64,700 + $2,400 Teacher Retention Allotment (TRA) Stipend) Salary is based on 187 days. If working less than 187 days, the salary will be less. Note: TRA/SRA (Teacher and Staff Retention Allotment) amount is in addition to the regular salary listed.
