About this role

Textron is a global company with a diverse portfolio of industry-leading brands. The Aftermarket Programs Software Engineer Intern will work with flight training device customers to triage and resolve issues, support code changes, test software loads, and coordinate deliverables with engineering and production teams.

What you'll do:

  • Liaison between flight training device customers and TRU Simulation. Act as an advocate to the customer and communicate with TRU Simulation engineering and production teams to fix, deliver, and test solutions
  • Support code changes on existing and new projects
  • Translate Customer issues into engineering terms and perform primary triage of issues
  • Ensure timely delivery of TRU Simulation deliverables to Customers
  • Provide regular reporting to Customer of issue statuses
  • Compile and test new loads on PC and on test rigs

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to liaison between the customer, engineering, and production
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • The ability to define the problem, troubleshoot, resolve, and document the solution
  • Some understanding of C++, scripting, and source control is required
  • Linux operating system proficiency (e.g. CentOS, Slackware, and/or RHEL)
  • Knowledge of shell command line and scripting languages (e.g Perl, Python)
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem solving skills

  • Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the U.S. for Textron Aviation at the time of making application, and visa sponsorship is not available for this position, including for F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors who will need employment sponsorship
  • Summer internships are 40 hours per week typically from late-May to early-August lasting 10 weeks
  • Candidates must be able to work onsite for the entirety of the internship program unless approved otherwise by the hiring manager
