Purpose of the Internship:

A summer intern would support the money market trading desk by assisting with trade execution, market monitoring, and operational controls while gaining hands-on exposure to financial markets and trading operations. The intern will contribute to trade support activities, communication and information gathering, market research, cash and data reconciliation, and the monitoring of trade settlements and allocations under the supervision of experienced team members. This role is designed to develop the intern's understanding of trading, market dynamics, and operational processes while providing valuable support to the desk's daily activities.

 

Major Duties:

  • Participate in trade execution, market, sector, and portfolio meetings to build knowledge of fixed income products, market structure, and trading decision-making
  •  Trade support: assisting with trade entry, confirmation, and trade settlement checks
  • Communication: Following market chats, answering phones, reading market analyses and reporting them to the group
  • Market research: tracking market movements, sector news, and economic data relevant to the desk's positions, and summarizing findings for traders.
  • Data reconciliation: reconciling daily cash positions
  • Monitoring: trade settlements and fund allocations
  • Participate in the development of AI solutions for money market trading activities

 

Hours/location: 

  • Full-time summer schedule working 37.5 hours/week
  • Federated Hermes Tower (FHT) – Pittsburgh, PA 15222
  • Summer- Hybrid work arrangement (4 days in office / 1 day remote)

 

Explanatory Comments:

This internship is expected to run approximately 10–12 weeks during the summer. The role will include a structured onboarding experience covering fixed income fundamentals, trading-desk workflows, with additional opportunities to engage with other areas of the company.
 

Position Specifications:

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, data science, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with an interest in financial markets and fixed income investments.
  • Demonstrated programming experience in Python; experience with data-analysis libraries and application development is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of statistics, econometrics, machine learning, time-series analysis, or quantitative research methods. Exposure to Bloomberg Terminal, Bloomberg BQuant, SQL, Git, or similar financial-data and development tools is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts and analytical conclusions clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Detail-oriented, intellectually curious, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple assignments in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
