2027 Summer Intern, MS, Software Engineering, Behavior Test

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company developing fully autonomous vehicle systems. The Software Engineering intern will design testing metrics, plans, and simulated scenarios for autonomous vehicle fault and remote assistance behaviors, while building dashboards and automated pipelines to analyze fleet-wide performance and validate safety-critical test coverage.

What you'll do:

• Design and implement metrics, test plans, and simulated scenarios for testing the autonomous vehicle in off-nominal situations, such as after a fault occurs or when remote assistance is needed, across multiple platforms and in support of rapid commercialization
• Create dashboards to monitor, visualize, and analyze fleet-wide autonomous vehicle fault rates on public roads
• Support the Verification and Validation (V&V) of Fault Protection and Remote Assistance behaviors
• Build automated pipelines using Python and SQL to update, version, and validate test coverage across safety-critical driving scenarios

What they're looking for:

• Currently enrolled in a MS program in an engineering, computer science, or a related technical field of study
• Enthusiasm to understand a complex system and its various components
• Experience with data analysis/modeling using Python and SQL
• Familiarity with autonomous vehicle technology and systems engineering principles
• Comfortable with ambiguous problems in a fast paced environment
