About this role
Spectrum is a telecommunications company offering connectivity, entertainment, and related services. The Security Engineer Intern will support the Security Engineering team with enterprise vulnerability management, including investigation, reporting, remediation tracking, vulnerability intelligence, data quality, and basic automation.
What you'll do:
- The Vulnerability Management Intern will support the Security Engineering team's efforts to identify, track, and reduce risk across Charter/Spectrum's IT and infrastructure environment. This role offers broad, hands-on exposure to enterprise vulnerability management tools and processes and cross-functional remediation workflows. The intern will work alongside engineers responsible for platform integrations, executive reporting, false positive investigation, and vulnerability intelligence, gaining a well-rounded foundation in enterprise security operations
- Support false positive investigation and validation by reviewing technical evidence submitted against vulnerability findings. Assist with maintaining and updating dashboards and reports within the Remediation Management platform to support executive and operational visibility into vulnerability posture. Help track remediation efforts against severity-based SLAs and follow up with stakeholders on outstanding findings. Participate in monitoring vendor disclosures and emerging high-risk vulnerabilities, and assist with documenting findings and applicability assessments. Support data quality efforts, including asset ownership validation and reconciliation across technology scanning toolsets. Assist with basic automation or scripting tasks (e.g., report generation, data pulls) under the guidance of team engineers. Attend team meetings, training sessions, and one-on-ones to build familiarity with team processes, priorities, and tools. Document processes and contribute to internal knowledge bases as directed
What they're looking for:
- Must be a rising senior with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited College or University completing a bachelor's degree
- Must have at least a 3.0 GPA or greater in current program
- Ability to travel locally to Spectrum intern development events and activities throughout the program
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship
- Understanding of Python or Golang, and fundamental networking and security concepts is preferred
