2027 Summer IT Intern – Cybersecurity

Western Reserve Group is offering a Summer 2027 IT internship for candidates interested in cybersecurity and the insurance industry. The intern will monitor security activity, assist with vulnerability management and incident response, support security governance and compliance activities, and help IT teams implement security best practices.

What you'll do:

• Monitor security alerts, logs, and dashboards for unusual activity
• Assist with vulnerability scanning, patching, and remediation processes
• Support incident response activities, including investigation, containment, and documentation
• Contribute to maintaining and improving security policies, standards, and procedures
• Conduct research on emerging threats, malware trends, and attack techniques
• Participate in risk assessments, access reviews, and compliance audits
• Work with IT teams to ensure security best practices are implemented in daily operations

What they're looking for:

• Experience in in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline from an accredited four-year high school, college, or university
• Basic understanding of networking, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and security concepts
• Familiarity with common security tools (e.g., firewalls, antivirus, SIEM)
• Knowledge of insurance industry
• Exposure to incident response tools or penetration testing frameworks
• Basic knowledge of cloud security principles (AWS, Azure)
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001)
• Hands-on experience from labs, academic projects, or personal security projects
