Towson University’s College of Fine Arts and Communication is recognized as a thriving arts center for Maryland, with programs offering art, dance, film, mass communication, communication studies, music, and theater arts. We are accepting applications for an Academic Program Coordinator who will assist the chairperson and area coordinators to meet the department priorities and goals through efficient operations of the department. In addition, the Academic Program Coordinator will organize academic programming needs for the department of art + design, art history, art education.  

 


  • Monitors department enrollment trends and using PeopleSoft query: tracks number of students enrolled in plans/sub-plans and the number of students assigned to specific advisors. Ensure that all required forms and documentation are complete. Receives, screens, and responds to inquiries on the phone or in writing. Provides general information about the program such as admission requirements, basic academic policies, and general program content.

  • Serve as department advocate for exceptions, re-articulations, transfer and catalog change petitions, study abroad forms or other paperwork regarding student issues, reviews for accuracy and faculty approval in consultation with the Chair for approval.

  • Serve as a departmental resource for PeopleSoft and faculty advising issues or questions. Manage Student enrollment issues with the ability to issue seat reservations for undergrads and grads- student requests and remove advising holds. Undergraduate Advising: advises all Art Minors and General Fine Art Studies students, General Design Studies students or students who require additional assistance. Assign advisors.

  • Support in the development of policies and procedures for departmental compliance with TU policy; assist with problem resolution for students and faculty. Serve as a liaison for security and facilities issues by submitting maintenance, cleaning and work requests, liaisons ongoing maintenance issues with Building Coordinator and faculty. Submits maintenance material requests to move furniture or dispose of obsolete or broken equipment.

  • Assist in the planning and coordination of department internal and external activities, orientation programs, open houses, departmental tours, lectures, and speaker series.

  • Participates in all efforts to promote and publicize the program and serves as the departmental publicity contact; liaison with COFAC Events Office. Coordinates information for website.

  • Assist with management of departmental technology and lab resources.

  • Supervise student workers; hire and train lab monitors and build and maintain a schedule for the CA 4012 computer lab.

  • The work scheduled for this position may include evenings on an occasional basis.

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Two years of academic advising, or relevant, work experience.

  • Knowledge of major/minor, BS/BA/BFA requirements and able to advise students in these areas/concentrations/majors/minors.

  • Demonstrated experience to train, supervise, and evaluate personnel (students).

  • Coordinate and implement information related to departmental objectives and prioritize multiple tasks and assignments.

  • Manage confidential and sensitive matters with tact and discretion related to student and departmental issues and concerns.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships across the department, college, and university.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in systems/software programs (e.g., Visual Zen, Peoplesoft, Stratus, Timesheets, TU campus for minor webpage editing, SSC, Area access mgmt. software, and alarm monitoring system software).
