About this role

The CDC Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through collaboration and resource mobilization. The Accountant supports day-to-day accounting operations, maintains accurate financial records, prepares journal entries and reconciliations, and assists with monthly and year-end close processes, reporting, audits, and compliance.

What you'll do:

  • Prepare and record journal entries accurately and timely
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities
  • Prepare account reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist with the reconciliation of balance sheet and general ledger accounts
  • Review financial transactions and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities as needed
  • Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation in accordance with organizational policies and procedures
  • Assist with bank, credit card, and other account reconciliations
  • Support the preparation and maintenance of schedules and roll-forwards
  • Assist with fixed asset accounting and depreciation schedules as assigned
  • Assist with the review of the general ledger for accuracy and completeness
  • Support internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules and gathering supporting documentation

  • * Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
  • * Understanding of basic accounting principles and GAAP
  • * Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • * Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • * Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • * Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines
  • * Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as a member of a team
  • * Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • * Ability to handle confidential financial information in a discreet and professional manner
  • * Willingness and ability to learn new accounting processes, systems, and nonprofit accounting requirements
  • * Familiarity with internal controls and audit procedures
