Accountant/Auditor 1

The State of West Virginia is seeking an entry-level Accountant/Auditor 1 to support the sub-recipient grants process. The role assists with grant budgets, monitoring, invoices, change orders, applications, financial reporting, expenditure analysis, and grant closeout activities.

What you'll do:

• Employee will learn to formulate plans for the process to ensure timely submission of grants and will be responsible for requesting appropriate assistance from various unit and sources within the Bureau
• Employee will provide assistance to the grantee in the development of BBH target funding budgets and detailed line-item budgets according to federal, state, and department guidelines
• Employee will learn to monitor grants, process change orders, ensure all invoices are received and processed, request appropriate extensions and process forms for closeout of grants
• Employee will provide weekly status reports for all grants and change orders in the process
• Employee will learn to conduct expenditure research and analysis to accurately recommend budget and program reward provisions
• Employee will aid in the development of budgets for federal grants, provide assistance in processing federal grant applications and carryover request calculations, and review for information for financial status reports
• Other related duties as assigned

What they're looking for:

• Position requires excellent communication skills, mathematical and accounting knowledge, ability to prepare correct and timely budgets and reports and requires extensive knowledge of Microsoft products
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 24 semester hours in accounting
• Certification or registration as a Public Accountant in West Virginia may be substituted for the training
