About this role
The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking an Accountant - Auditor I to join the Auditor-Controller's Office in Contra Costa County. The role involves ensuring fiscal integrity of the County's financial records and providing excellent service to various stakeholders while working in a dynamic environment.
What you'll do:
- Reconciles W-2 earnings and deductions
- Calculates, reconciles, reports, and remits payroll deductions, withholding, and FICA taxes
- Reconciles payroll general ledger accounts
- Prepares, reviews, and approves payroll journals
- Helps in W-2 and W-2C preparation
- Assists in Federal and State payroll reporting
- Documents work processes for assigned tasks
- Prepares, reviews, and approves County department journals
- Assists in preparing County Annual Comprehensive Financial Report
- Reconciles general ledger
- Participates in fiscal Year-End tasks and processes
- Assists in preparing County Financial Transaction Report
What they're looking for:
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, finance, accounting or a closely related field
- Course work must have included at least 12 semester or 18 quarter units from among the following accounting courses: Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Governmental Accounting, Fund Accounting, Cost Accounting, or Auditing
- Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certification, Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP) certification, or the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification
- Four (4) years of full time (or its equivalent) experience as an Accounting or Payroll Technician for Contra Costa County and at least 12 semester or 18 quarter units from the above listed accounting/auditing courses, which must be transferrable to an accredited college or university system for credit
- Demonstrates exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively to meet departmental deadlines
- Has strong communication skills, both written and verbal, which are essential for effective collaboration and ensuring clarity and understanding among team members
- Can work independently while still functioning well in a team-oriented environment
- Has a high level of integrity and honesty, which are paramount for successful execution of job responsibilities
- Displays diligence and a strong work ethic as key traits which will contribute to effective performance in this role
- Has a desire for professional growth and development, coupled with a motivated attitude, to ensure that the candidate continues to excel in this position
