About this role
The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science is seeking an Accountant I to support the Dining Services Business Office’s delegated accounts payable team. The role audits invoices and cash reports, receives items into the electronic inventory management system, processes invoices through the University accounting system, submits document batches to the State of Maryland, and maintains relationships with internal customers and vendors.
What you'll do:
- Serve as an Accounts Payable Accountant for the Dining Services Business Office's delegated A/P team. Audit invoices, receive items into the electronic inventory management system, process invoices for payment through the University accounting system, and submit document batches to the State of Maryland. Communicate and maintain relationships with internal customers and vendors. Audit cash reports and perform other duties as assigned
- This is an essential position and incumbent must report to work when the campus is closed due to weather or other emergency situations. May be required to work some weekends or evenings due to special events. Annual leave will not be granted for specific periods including the weeks preceding the start of each semester, Maryland Day, Family Weekend or special events. Typical office environment, including transferring files to document storage boxes and lifting
What they're looking for:
- Bachelors degree in accounting or related field with a minimum of nine credits in Accounting
- Working knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Ability to apply basic analytical skills; to operate manual and automated office equipment, personal computers and financial software to input data; to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to prepare and present working papers and supporting documentation
- Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience
- Bachelors Degree in business, accounting, or related field
- Experience processing accounts payable invoices
- Experience with inventory management software
- Experience with accounting software
- Experience with enterprise level systems such as Banner or Workday
- Experience in high-volume, foodservice operations
