Accountant I

McFarlane Alaska specializes in aircraft parts and performance modifications for the aviation market. The Accountant I will own Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions while supporting the Controller with reconciliations, month-end close, daily accounting activities, and other accounting projects.

What you'll do:

• Own day-to-day Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including invoice processing, vendor payments, customer payments, collections, and account maintenance
• Assist with bank and balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities
• Process daily accounting activity, including bank transactions, deposits, expense entry, and petty cash
• Reconcile vendor and customer accounts and research discrepancies
• Research accounting discrepancies and ensure transactions are accurately recorded and supported
• Complete voucher closing and maintain accurate supporting documentation
• Maintain organized and accurate financial records
• Support the Controller with accounting projects and additional responsibilities as needed

What they're looking for:

• An Accounting, Finance, or Business degree is preferred; equivalent accounting experience will also be considered
• Previous accounting, bookkeeping, AP/AR, or similar experience with a solid understanding of accounting fundamentals
• Working knowledge of debits, credits, account reconciliations, and accrual accounting
• Strong follow-through and the ability to independently manage recurring responsibilities and deadlines
• Comfortable researching discrepancies and working through problems to resolution
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn new systems
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
