About this role

The State of Nebraska provides financial expertise and services to multiple divisions within the Department of Administrative Services. The Accountant I will support Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities by processing transactions, analyzing financial data, preparing financial documents, assisting the financial support team, and communicating with vendors and agency personnel.

What you'll do:

  • Job duties include entering, analyzing, reviewing/pre-auditing and approving various expenditure payment types, journal entries, deposits and other AP and AR transactions as needed
  • Entering and validating data in various billing systems/databases
  • Generating, extracting, compiling, organizing, and analyzing financial data from vouchers, ledgers, journals and other accounting documents and databases to develop and prepare spreadsheets, reports, statements and other financial documents or files
  • Assisting members of the financial support team including the Budget Analysts
  • This position will communicate with vendors, agency personnel and other agencies to answer inquiries and clarify any matters that maybe in question
  • All other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification

  • Post high school coursework or vocational education in accounting, finance, business administration or related field OR experience performing accounting functions including interpreting and analyzing financial data
  • Ability to learn and apply the principles and concepts of specific agency programs and regulations and the procedures of an accounting system
  • Excellent communication skills with both internal and external customers and staff
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and make independent decisions
  • Experience with Excel software
