About this role
San Antonio River Authority is responsible for managing the region's water resources, and they are seeking an Accountant I - Senior Accountant. The role involves complex accounting functions, financial reporting, and supports payroll functions while ensuring proper financial transaction recording.
What you'll do:
- Assist in the planning and preparation of financial statements and reports as requested
- Oversee the Accounts Receivable (AR) function, including monitoring bank transactions for payments and tracking past-due invoices
- Create invoices for external customers and government agencies, including lease invoices, project billings, and utility assistance charges
- Track property tax revenue by auditing tax reports received from counties and recording uncollectible entries
- Assist with payroll preparation, including the timely submission of retirement account contributions and related deductions
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
- Analyze general ledger account variances and perform account reconciliations to assist with quarter-end close
- Record newly acquired fixed assets, maintain fixed asset systems for reporting, complete yearly inventory of assets, and oversee the disposal process of obsolete assets
- Serve as the Records Management liaison for the Finance Department
- Handle complex year-end assignments and prepare reports for the annual financial audit
- Assist with grant reporting
- Review co-workers' data entries to ensure accuracy
What they're looking for:
- Undergraduate Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline
- One (1) year of progressively responsible experience in public sector accounting, budgeting, and reporting, or a combination of experience and education that results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Undergraduate Degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or relevant discipline
- At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, or economics, or a combination of experience and education that results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Undergraduate Degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or relevant discipline
- At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in finance, governmental accounting, and financial reporting, including three (3) years of supervising experience, or a combination of experience and education that results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- State of Texas CTCD certification or other recognized certification is required or obtained within first year
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and an insurable driving record
- Knowledge of Financial Accounting Systems
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and accounting software
- Knowledge of Accounts receivables/billing systems
