About this role

The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate general ledger records, performing account reconciliations, and supporting the preparation of financial statements to ensure reliable and compliant financial reporting across assigned entities or properties. This role executes daily, weekly, and monthly accounting activities in accordance with GAAP, company policies, and internal control requirements. Additionally, this role provides oversight and backup support for accounts payable functions. 

Key Responsibilities 

General Ledger & Financial Reporting 

  • Prepares and posts journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation. 
  • Maintains general ledger accuracy and ensures transactions are recorded timely and in accordance with GAAP. 
  • Assists in the preparation of monthly financial statements and supporting schedules. 
  • Researches general ledger accounts and resolves discrepancies as requested. 
  • Retrieves and records monthly financial activity from system reports and audit files as required. 

Account Reconciliations & Close Support 

  • Performs monthly bank account reconciliations, including verification of deposits and outstanding checks. 
  • Reconciles credit card receivables, tax-exempt revenue, prepaid expenses, accruals, and other assigned balance sheet accounts. 
  • Maintains prepaid and accrued schedules based on established guidelines. 
  • Ensures intercompany accounts are balanced and reconciled. 
  • Assists with month-end and year-end close processes to support timely reporting. 

Fixed Assets & Depreciation 

  • Prepares and maintains depreciation schedules for book and tax purposes. 
  • Posts depreciation entries to the general ledger. 
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable depreciation practices and related accounting standards. 

Tax & Regulatory Support 

  • Prepares sales and use tax returns in a timely manner and reconciles related liability accounts. 
  • Prepares personal property tax returns as assigned. 
  • Maintains awareness of applicable tax rules and procedures affecting assigned entities.

Operational & Administrative Support  

  • Records and monitors monthly inventory reporting. 
  • Assists with preparation of annual capital and operating budgets. 
  • Provides backup support for accounts payable and other accounting functions as needed. 
  • Maintains organized financial records and documentation to support audit and compliance requirements. 
  • Supports internal and external audit requests. 
  • Completes additional accounting-related duties and projects as assigned. 

Qualifications  

Education and Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred. 
  • Typically 0 – 2+ years of relevant accounting or general ledger experience. 

Skills and Competencies:  

  • Working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting. 
  • Strong understanding of debits, credits, and reconciliations. 
  • Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems. 
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. 
  • All other Duties as Assigned

The employee may also:  

  • Frequently stand and walk throughout the office.

The typical noise level in the work environment is moderate—comparable to a standard business office with periodic conversations, phones ringing, and copier or printer use.
