Accounting and Claims Intern

Howden Re is a global reinsurance broker and risk, capital, and strategic advisor. The Accounting and Claims Intern will support reinsurance accounting and claims activities, including reviewing coverage, preparing loss calculations, processing claims transactions, and tracking reinsurer settlements.

What you'll do:

• Work with the team to perform all reinsurance accounting functions for selected client accounts and provide backup coverage for other accounts as needed
• Work with the team to receive initial loss notices, loss status updates and proofs of loss from clients and forward to applicable reinsurers
• Confirm coverage under treaty; review contract wording for retention & limit, LAE treatment, loss reporting requirements, loss attachment basis, etc
• Prepare / review loss calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance with contract terms
• Process claims transactions in accounting and claims system
• Track the status of reinsurer settlements

What they're looking for:

• You'll be working towards a Bachelor's degree in any subject, ideally with a focus on accounting
• You'll be able to clearly communicate your thoughts and ideas both in writing and in person
• And be able to handle multiple tasks and projects at the same time in a client service, deadline-driven environment
• Actively pursuing a Bachelor's degree
• Have a GPA of 3.0+
• Be proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Pay close attention to detail, because every small detail matters
• Legally authorized to work in the US
