About this role
American Equity is an annuity provider that helps clients fulfill their retirement needs. The Accounting Intern supports daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting activities, including reconciliations, journal entries, financial analysis, and internal and external reporting, while contributing to team projects.
What you'll do:
- Collaborates with others and works independently on accounting-related duties, which may include the following:
- Prepares general ledger account reconciliations
- Prepares and posts journal entries with supporting documentation
- Assists in the preparation of financial statements
- Assists in the preparation of management reporting materials
- Assists in the preparation of external reporting materials, which may include quarterly SEC filing documents
- Completes project and support tasks with guidance from mentor and department leader
- Collaborates with fellow interns across departments on a strategic, cross-functional initiative that drives meaningful business impact
- Performs other related duties as assigned
What they're looking for:
- · Actively pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting or other related field of study
- · Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to speak effectively in small group settings
- · Mathematical and accounting skills with strong attention to detail
- · Strong planning and organization skills
- · Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- · Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify patterns, research differences, and summarize findings clearly
- · Problem-solving skills with ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- · Ability to read and interpret documents such as instructions and procedure manuals
- · Ability to work cooperatively and successfully with employees, team members, and external business partners
- · Ability to successfully handle pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
- · Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
