This position is with the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Beckman Center for Mental Health Services, 1547 Parkway Greenwood, SC 29646.
As the administrative specialist II, medical records specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining, organizing, and protecting medical records for Beckman while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with all applicable healthcare regulations.
Responsibilities for the Administrative Specialist II:
- Process medical record requests from patients, providers, insurance companies, and authorized third parties for Beckman's six clinics. Obtain appropriate authorizations before releasing protected health information.
- Respond to requests from physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals for referrals for services to ensure that continuity of care for patients is maintained prior to and after services.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail. Scan, index, and upload medical records as appliable.
- Serve as vehicle steward for the Center, providing AAA training, as applicable.
Position Duties
A high school diploma. Related clerical experience may be substituted for a high school diploma.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma and two (2) years of clerical experience; or an associate degree in secretarial science or related field; or three years of clerical experience.

- Exercise judgement and discretion in utilization of applicable policies, practices, and procedures.
- Have working knowledge of the care and operation of standard office equipment.
- Be able to collect and assemble information in a clear, concise manner.
- Understand/convey oral & written instructions.
- Communicate effectively, organize, coordinate, and schedule work assignments.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff members and the general public.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Understand position is considered essential and may be called back during crises/disasters/emergencies.
