About this role
CNH Industrial is a company focused on agriculture and construction solutions, including alternative power and precision technologies. The AI Engineer Intern will develop and deploy machine learning and deep learning software systems, optimize models for target hardware, and support testing, troubleshooting, research, and collaboration across engineering projects.
What you'll do:
- Design, implement, and deploy software systems incorporating classical machine learning techniques to solve well-scoped engineering and product problems
- Develop and integrate deep learning models (CNNs, transformers, and other architectures as appropriate) into production software, including training, evaluation, and inference pipelines
- Implement data preprocessing, feature engineering, and augmentation pipelines, and support model optimization for target hardware through techniques such as quantization, pruning, and format conversion (e.g., ONNX, TensorRT, TFLite)
- Contribute as an active member of a Scrum team, delivering working, tested software within each sprint and participating in planning, estimation, and retrospectives
- Write, review, and document software using test-driven development (TDD), including unit, integration, and regression tests, with an emphasis on reproducibility and maintainable code
- Build automated test environments, simulation frameworks, and CI/CD pipelines to validate model and system behavior across releases
- Conduct manual and bench testing, and prepare software builds and configurations for field deployment and customer installation
- Support end users through software troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, defect resolution, and technical training
- Research and evaluate algorithms, libraries, datasets, and third-party tools relevant to assigned projects, and make evidence-based recommendations
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to gather, clarify, and communicate technical and data requirements
- Support software asset management, including dependency tracking, licensing, and maintenance contracts
- Prepare and present technical reports, metrics, and recommendations to engineering and stakeholder audiences
What they're looking for:
- Summer interns work full-time (40 hours per week) from May through August
- Candidates must be currently enrolled college students actively pursuing a degree to participate in the internship program
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical field (or a Bachelor's degree with equivalent relevant experience)
- Proficiency in C++ (modern C++11/14/17 or later), including familiarity with memory management, concurrency, and performance-conscious development
- Programming experience in Python, particularly within the ML/scientific stack (e.g., NumPy, PyTorch or TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
- Working understanding of machine learning and deep learning fundamentals, including model training, evaluation metrics, and common failure modes
- Experience with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows
- Familiarity with software testing practices and CI/CD concepts
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly, both written and verbally
Benefits:
- Mentorship
- Training
- Hands-on experience
- Growth opportunities
- Competitive wages
- Networking events
- Social and volunteer activities
- Professional development workshops
- Housing support
- Flexible work arrangements
