AI/ML Engineer Co-op

Ahold Delhaize USA is a division of global food retailer Ahold Delhaize that provides services to leading U.S. grocery brands. The AI/ML Engineer Co-op will contribute to personalization and recommendation systems that enhance the digital grocery shopping experience, using artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, and graph-based modeling. The role also supports model training pipelines and microservice APIs for scalable production model inferencing.

What you'll do:

• The AI team at ADUSA is focused on building advanced personalization and recommendation systems to improve the digital grocery shopping experience for millions of customers
• We specialize in hyper-personalization, leveraging artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, and graph-based modeling to generate actionable insights
• Our work powers business decisions across e-commerce, marketing, and customer engagement, driving both innovation and measurable growth
• We also develop, deploy, monitor, and maintain model training pipelines and microservice APIs that support scalable model inferencing in production

What they're looking for:

• Applicants must be currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis and be available from January 19, 2027 through June 4, 2027
• We have a hybrid work environment that requires a minimum of three days a week in the office

• Currently enrolled in a master's program in Data Science, AI, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
• Strong programming skills in Python with coursework or projects in data science / AI
• Strong problem-solving skills, intellectual curiosity, and ability to communicate technical results
• Familiarity with machine learning concepts, natural language processing, Generative AI, and large language models (LLMs)
• Understanding Agentic AI concepts, including AI agents, multi-step workflows, tool usage, and orchestration patterns
• Knowledge of recommendation systems, personalization techniques, ranking models, and customer/product relevance modeling
• Strong understanding of deep learning concepts and transformer-based architectures, including when and how to apply them to practical AI use cases
• Ability to implement, evaluate, and tune classical machine learning models such as XGBoost, Random Forest, gradient boosting, regression models, and other standard ML techniques for real-world business problems
