SUBSTITUTE SNS MEAL SERVICE ATTENDANT

 

Department: School Nutrition Services

Rate:  $15.00

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt  

 

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs responsible semi-skilled work supervising students during meal service and/or assistant in the kitchen. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the SNS Manager or Assistant Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Monitors the behavior of students in the lunchroom and reports misconduct to proper authorities.

Monitors the movement of students in the lunch lines.

Clean tables, seating area, and spills.

Remove any trash on the floor and sweep, if necessary, between lunches.

Sweep thoroughly at the end of the final lunch period.

Empty trash cans in the cafeteria into large bins.

Assists students as necessary, e.g., opens milk cartons, provides straws, etc.

Assists in dismissing students to return to class.

Directs students to clear tables and deposit trash in receptacles, etc.

Preparing, cooking, and serving meats, bread, vegetables, and other food in accordance with the menu.

Prepares and serves fruits, desserts, salads, soups, and other foods.

May be assigned to one specific food preparation area or rotated through the full range of food services.

Performs related tasks as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school is preferred.

  • Possession of or ability to acquire an appropriate license(s), certificate(s), and/or endorsement(s) for a position as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board. Food Hander’s card is preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Desire to put forth the best effort in all assigned duties.

  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions; 

  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required use of measuring devices, operation of machines, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; 

  • The worker is subject to extreme heat, noise, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
